Client Assignment · Consumer Goods · Innovation
An innovation process that produced ideas. Not yet commercial outcomes.
A global consumer packaged goods company with a mature innovation function. The process worked.
Discipline was lacking — and a systematic approach to unleading the value sitting in the asset base.

CLIENT
Global consumer packaged goods company
OUTCOME
New innovation process operational. IP monetized across four industries.
THE CHALLENGE
A well-resourced innovation function — and a gap between ideas and commercial outcomes.
A global consumer goods company known for marketing excellence and significant innovation investment had a challenge: the innovation front end was generating ideas and running pilots, but was not converting them into medium-term commercial impact.
What Made This Different
Integration, not replacement. And a first output no one had anticipated.
Vaxa's approach was not to replace the existing innovation process — it was to integrate alongside it. The Vaxa Strategic Innovations International methodology was merged with the client's existing process to create a new combined operating model.
Both teams led initiatives — Vaxa directly on some, in an arm's-length advisory capacity on others.
WHAT vaxa DID
Process integration, commercial validation, and IP monetization.
01
Innovation Process Assessment
Assessed the existing corporate innovation process — intake, validation, governance, and pipeline quality. Identified the gap: strong internal R&D and idea generation, weak external commercial orientation and asset utilisation discipline.
02
Process Integration
Integrated the Vaxa Strategic Innovations International methodology alongside the existing process — not replacing it but combining the best of both into a new operating model. Both teams led initiatives across the portfolio.
03
IP Asset Scan
Systematically scanned the existing technology asset base for underutilised commercial potential. Identified advanced plastics and absorbent technologies developed for internal use in consumer products — never evaluated for external application.
04
Commercial Validation & Monetization Pathway
Ran commercial validation across alternative application markets for the identified IP — aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, and electronics. Confirmed viable opportunities. Designed the commercialisation pathway for the highest-priority markets.
The Outcome
A new process. New markets. Revenue from assets that had generated none.
01
New integrated innovation process operational
A combined process merging the client's existing methodology with the Vaxa Strategic Innovations International approach — more commercially disciplined, more externally oriented, and producing decisions rather than reports.
02
Plastics and absorbent IP identified for commercial application
Advanced materials technology developed for internal consumer product use — identified as commercially viable in four external markets. Assets that had never generated external revenue given a commercial trajectory.
03
Four new industry applications validated
Aerospace, automotive, industrial manufacturing, and electronics — all validated as viable markets for the existing IP. Commercialisation pathway designed for the highest-priority opportunities.
